I’m re-sending this post so you all know you can view the first session for FREE!
We all want to understand our Bibles, don’t we? And not just the New Testament, but the Old Testament as well. We want to put together the great story of redemption, to understand what the Old Testament meant to its original authors and audiences and what it should mean to us as well.
This is our story, and we’re eager to claim it.
And yet, for many of us, the Old Testament can feel like someone else’s story—one that happened long, long ago to people far, far away, with a God we’re not sure we recognize.
That’s why I created the “Epic of Eden” Bible study series. And most specifically, it is the motivation behind: The Epic of Eden: Understanding the Old Testament as Your Story.
According to the New Testament, “If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise” (Gal 3:29). But what do we really know about Abraham? There is a “great barrier” that stands between us and our people in the Old Testament. We have 4,000 years of history to traverse, geography that doesn’t look anything like my home town. The economy is strange. The culture is strange. And don’t get me started on the jumble of names and dates and places and stories that are crammed into your Old Testament closet! Nearly thirty years of teaching this material have taught me that what most folk need is someone to organize that closet for them, and a tour guide to help them navigate this “cross-cultural” experience we call the study of the Old Testament.
That’s my job.
I’ll give you the timeline, maps, and cultural clues you need to step back into the world of the Old Testament. I’ll put the edges on the jigsaw puzzle so that you can begin to see how all the pieces fit together. And I’ll walk you from Eden to the New Jerusalem, from the first Adam to the Last Adam (1 Cor 15:45), so that you can understand for yourself that this story you’re a part of is indeed the Great Story.
Because this isn’t simply a course about understanding the Old Testament.
It’s about understanding your story.
Take a peek at the first session of The Epic of Eden: Understanding the Old Testament as Your Story and come discover the story you have been part of all along.

My Bible study group is beginning this Second Edition, "The Epic of Eden," on November 6th. We'd start in October if we weren't already doing another study! We've done all of Dr Richter's "Epic of Eden" studies, and can't wait to revisit the one that started it all.
